What was the war about and why did it start?
The War of 1812 was the Canadian War of Independence. It was crucial that the American Invasion was repelled because if it was not, the Canadians would be under the rule of the Americans . For the British, it was crucial that they have a stronghold at all the know continents so they would remain the strongest power. One day their strongholds might be useful. When war was declared, all Canadians and British troops thought that an American Invasion was inevitable. But through time, several great leaders proved them wrong and with the united Canadians, British, and Native soldiers, the invasion was repelled. At that time, the British Crown was the protector and ruler of Upper and Lower Canada. While the Greatest Power Great Britain was at war with the French Empire the Americans saw the perfect chance to drive the “British Tyrant” out of America. Canada was the last major British stronghold in Canada. At the same time, the Americans wanted to take as much land as possible from the Natives to accommodate the rapid population growth of US.
